Caring for your Italian necktie
A beautiful Italian necktie will bring your whole outfit together. Ties also allow you to easily diversify your wardrobe simply by mixing and matching ties with different shirts and suits and jackets.
But ties are delicate! Here's how we recommend for you to care for them:
Untying your Tie
Care should be taken when removing your tie. Please don't pull the thin end of the tie through the knot, this will distort the tie. Instead, simply reverse the tie-tying steps.
As a general rule you should not iron your tie as the edges have a soft, folded finish and ironing will flatten the edges.
The best way is to carefully untie your tie by reversing the tie knotting process and hanging the tie up. Gravity will help remove the wrinkles.
For minor wrinkles, hang your tie up in the bathroom while taking a shower. The steam created by the shower will help soften the wrinkles.
Be careful with handheld steamers as they have been known to “spit” water, which could ruin your tie.
Cleaning Your Tie
The best way is to dry clean it at a reliable dry cleaner, one that has experience with fine neckties.Be sure to remind them not to press the tie as noted above.
If you do stain your tie, act quickly.
Water based stains: Gently blot the stain with a small amount of cold water on a clean cloth as this helps prevent the stain from setting.
Oil based stains: Try dusting some talcum powder on it immediately. The powder should absorb the oil. After a few hours, brush off the remaining residue and clean with a soft cloth.
If the stain remains, take the tie to a reputable dry-cleaner.
Storing Your Ties
Our lined ties use pure wool interlinings which help the tie resist wrinkles and drape beautifully.
Hanging your ties properly by draping over a hanger, a tie rack or a closet rod makes it easier for the creases and folds from a knot to fall out. Rotate the position of your ties from time to time to keep creases from forming.
You can also store them rolled, be careful not to damage the tip or crush them.
When traveling, fold your ties into fours and place them in your coat pocket. This helps them to keep their shape.
Notes about Grenadine Ties
Our silk grenadine ties are woven from a special type of gauze silk which is delicate, please be very careful not to snag the silk.
After wearing your grenadine tie you may notice a slight movement of the fabric, due to the loose weave which is characteristic of silk grenadine. This is normal and will not change your tie’s knot, drape or overall beauty.
